If you’re like most people, you’re probably holding onto more body fat than you’d like to. Maybe you recently gained some weight, or maybe it’s been a struggle your entire life. Whatever it is, many people want to lose weight and be the healthiest versions of themselves that they can be, but they struggle with getting rid of the extra fat, which raises the question, what’s the fastest way to burn fat?
This is a question I’ve received thousands of times as a coach. Everybody wants to learn how to burn body fat most quickly and effectively but isn’t always sure what the best way is. Recently, I got a question about this from a woman named Sommer:
“I’ve been trying to lose fat for a while now, and I was having some success with it last year until the fall. I started to notice that I was gaining more weight than usual and wasn’t sure why. After a couple months, I weighed myself and found I had gained an additional 15 pounds in that amount of time, and obviously, this was a huge shock to me. I’ve been indulging a little bit for the holidays, and my schedule has been a little chaotic, so I haven’t been able to make it to the gym, but it was still a huge shock to me that I had put on that much weight so quickly.
I’m reaching out because I’m really upset with my appearance and desperately trying to get back on track with my weight, especially before the spring and summer months. Can you help me determine the fastest way to lose fat, or give me any tips or tricks?”
Now let me start by saying, like Sommer, gaining fat towards the end of the year is common for many people. You’re eating more sweets, training less, becoming busier, and just tend to feel lazy in the colder months. This is why you always hear about so many people jumping on the fitness bandwagon during New Year––to lose the fat they gained the month before.
But just because this is common doesn’t mean it has to be, and there are plenty of ways you can stay healthy even during the holidays. So, how can you burn fat the fastest and keep it off, even during the winter months?
The fastest way to burn body fat will be optimizing different aspects of your lifestyle. That means optimizing your nutrition, your training, and your lifestyle.
1. Nutrition
First of all, you have to get into a caloric deficit. To burn fat, you have to eat fewer calories than you’re currently eating to burn body fat. You should also incorporate more protein in your diet to help boost your fat loss.
2. Training
Secondly, you must be training consistently about three to five times weekly. Whether you’re working out for 45-60 minutes, it doesn't matter. You just want to make sure you’re training hard, getting your workout in, and being consistent with it.
3. Sleep and hydration
Next, you need to also be on top of your water consumption and sleep schedule. Rest and proper hydration help your body recover properly. Not getting enough water or rest can throw off your body's natural balance, slow your metabolism, and make it much harder to lose fat.
4. Consistency
Lastly, consistency is key. You can't be on a diet a few days a week and then off it a few days a week and expect to see results. You have to be consistently doing what you need to be doing throughout the week to get the best results, and that means training hard, eating right, resting, and making sure you’re getting enough water. As long as you stay consistent with a good structured plan, you’ll lose fat in no time.
So, how can you burn body fat quickly?
Overall, if you really want to lose fat fast, you need to optimize all aspects of your lifestyle. You can’t lose weight and keep it off if you only give half-effort. You have to be willing to get focused and put the work in if you want to see results, which means putting the effort in every day.
